Hello and welcome to our Arts page. I am Mrs McGuire and I am delighted to be the Arts Co-ordinator at Finchale. I have a background in dance and welcome the opportunity to look after The Arts at Finchale which is a thriving area for our school.

18/07/19 - Back Chat Brass came back to Finchale! The whole school had a great time listening and dancing to the brass music while learning about the instruments and playing the magic glasses game. Year four then took part in a brass workshop were they learned how to play 'Shotgun' on mini brass instruments.
5th July - Finchale's Got Talent
Our KS1 overall winner was Leo and our joint KS2 winners were Jack and Lily.
Reception performed a wonderful dance to 'Shotgun'.

Performance of Joseph with Durham High School for Girls.
Seven of our Year 5 girls had the opportunity to perform at the Gala in the musical of Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat. The girls spent a full day on Saturday at the High School rehearsing and learning the placements on stage. The girls had a brilliant time and enjoyed, singing, dancing and performing. Their favourite song was by the Pharaoh who sang like Elvis. Well done to all the girls for taking part, the show was brilliant!
21st June - Big Play Day
We celebrated Big Play Day at Finchale in line with Make Music Day which was celebrated around the world in 120 countries. Each year group prepared and performed a song that they sang in front of the school with added instruments which included; body percussion, tambourines, ukuleles, brass instruments and a guitar. We also had 10 brave soloists perform for us from Year 2 to Year 6 and even Mrs Whitton's son. Thank you for everyone who helped and took part. A fantastic event celebrating Music at Finchale.

Chorister Day, 2/3/19
Jack and Harriet from Year 3 attended the Chorister Experience at Durham Cathedral. They had a great time singing with the Cathedral Choir at Evensong, touring the Chorister School and playing the organ. The pictures show them with the choir in rehearsal and with their certificates at the end. Well done Jack and Harriet!

Finchale Choir Perform as part of the Durham Vocal Festival
Public Performance 7/2/18 in Durham Cathedral
All the children involved were fantastic at the Cathedral. A lot of adults told us how impressed they were with our behavior and singing. We have all been awarded a head teacher's sticker for a fantastic job well done!

The work, spanning seven movements, is created for the professional vocal ensemble VOCES8., to perform alongside a massed choir with organ, piano, tubular bells, timpani, guitar and electric bass. The seven movements chart a journey from darkness to light, telling stories which echo across all humanity, exploring the universe we inhabit, whilst maintaining moments of intimacy and introspection.

Choir performance, 1st December 2018
On Saturday 1st December our School Choir were asked to perform with Durham Young Musicians at a Christmas Concert. The Choir really enjoyed themselves and performed six songs including 'Walking in the air' from The Snowman. Thanks to Mrs Bartley for playing the piano and helping us prepare for this performance.
Exploring Pitch with Water, 26th November 2018
In Year 3 we explored how to make a high pitch and a low pitch sound using just water in a bottle. From this we created a scale using five bottles and discussed how the vibrations in the air corresponds to the pitch.

Jayamini de Silva came in to visit Year 3 to tell us all about Diwali and to create Rangoli patterns with coloured powered rice.

Rev. Caroline came in again today to lead us in another Open the Book Assembly. Today we learned about David and Goliath and acted out the story as a school.
