Welcome to Fantastic Year 4!
Year 4, it is so lovely to see you all back at Finchale and ready to learn. This term we are going to finding out why the Romans marched through County Durham, studying the artist L.S. Lowry and learning all about Europe. In Science, we shall be learning about states of matter and are looking forward to a visit from Captain Chemistry. Even more exciting, we are going to be learning how to play the mini trombone!
We had so much fun at the Cricket Festival at Chester-le-Street Cricket Club. The sun was shining and we showcased our brilliant Cricket skills we have been developing during PE lessons.
We had an incredible time during our Jubilee Week. We explored the decade of the 1980s by participating in lots of fun activities. We looked at inventions and popular technology from the 80s and tried to work out what they were each used for! We also danced our way through the 80s, had an 80s style buffet and designed some 80s sunglasses.
We had an absolutely amazing afternoon playing Quidditch - even the rain didn't dampen our spirits!!
We had a great day exploring 'Urban Life'. We looked at what it's like to live in a town or city and the advantages and disadvantages to this. We also designed our own town/city and thought about the prices of houses and which houses would suit different families based on their needs. The activity we enjoyed the most was a game which helped us understand the cost of living. Thank you Enterprise for a fab day!!
We had lots of fun exploring States of Matter with Captain Chemistry. We conducted many experiments including, creating our own water cycle, investigating which material is the best for insulating ice, extinguishing a candle with gas, creating a filtration system and making slime! Captain Chemistry also showed us some interesting things including, moving gas around the room and creating a rocket. We had so much fun - thank you for visiting us Captain Chemistry!
We had lots of fun during British Science Week. We conducted a fair test to investigate which biscuit is the best to dunk in hot milk. We tested digestives, ginger nuts and bourbon biscuits. Ask us about our results!
