Wellbeing Buddies
at
Finchale Primary School
Wellbeing Buddies have an important role at Finchale Primary School. They take part in special training with Mrs Rice, our Wellbeing Co-Ordinator, where they discuss the qualities needed to carry out this role. They should be:
* A good listener
* Calm
* Friendly
* Thoughtful
* Caring
* Helpful
* Fair
* Understanding
* Confidential (private)
In training they think about who might need their help during breaktime and lunchtime, such as children who have hurt themselves, are lonely or upset about something. The Wellbeing Buddies then discuss and role play different scenarios. This might involve how they can seek help from an adult if a child is physically hurt or how to encourage a child to use breathing strategies if they are upset. The Wellbeing Buddies discuss the Zones of Regulation and practise different breathing strategies and distraction techniques.
The Wellbeing Buddies also learn about confidentiality and how it is not appropriate to gossip about something a child may tell them. They are taught that it is very important to tell an adult if they are worried about something another child does or says.
You can identify our Wellbeing Buddies by their yellow caps and badges which they proudly wear!
