They then moved onto work on their cycling skills, balance, looking behind, stopping, signalling and manoeuvring.

Triathlon Success at Freemans Quay, 15/2/19

Congratulations to our Y5/6 pupils who competed in the School Sports Partnership KS2 Triathlon. We entered two teams at Freemans Quay who both gave their all at the event which involved swimming, running and cycling. Their combined performance was superb and I am delighted to let you know that Group A won a silver medal. We also received four individual medals, M won the Y5 Girls Silver, M won Y6 Boys Bronze, E won Y6 Girls Bronze and I won Y6 Girls Gold. Well done children!

Y4 & Y5 Health and Fitness Programme, 6/2/19

Pupils from Years 4 & 5 are taking part in a 12-week coaching programme focused on Health and Fitness led by Leanne and Sammy. Over the 12 weeks they take part in a number of different activities emphasising the importance of regular exercise, what happens to their bodies during exercise and the impact on their health. This is aimed at encouraging pupils to increase their own personal level of activity. At the start the children assessed their own fitness levels by completing a range of different exercises such as: plank, sit ups, star jumps, squats and skipping within a set amount of time. At the end of the programme they will then repeat these exercises to see what improvements have been made to their own stamina and fitness.

Morning Fitness Club, 6/2/19

The KS2 children are enjoying Fitness Club which takes place on Wednesday morning - here you can see them playing bench ball which is good exercise and great fun!

Olympic Modern Pentathlon Training, 25/1/19

Year 6 were given the opportunity to experience part of an Olympic Modern Pentathlon when they were challenged to use a laser pistol to hit a perfect 5 in 50 seconds – a requirement of the event. Through Pentathlon GB North they received training from Lead Shooting Trainer and athlete Andrew who, after a full safety briefingtaught them how to accurately stand, aim and shoot at an electronic target. After taking time to practise and improve their skills they then had the chance to see how many hits they could achieve, if any, in the 50 seconds. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and showed an improvement in their aiming skills.

Swimming Gala, Freemans Quay, 16/1/19

We joined 14 other schools at a Swimming Gala at Freeman’s Quay in Durham organised by the School Sports Partnership. We entered two teams a Y3/4 team and a Y5/6 team. It was an action packed afternoon with approximately 17 events and 3 heats in every event. There were individual races and relay team races split by age group with boy, girl and mixed groups. All the children swam their very best and the group were brilliant ambassadors for our school. We finished in 6th place overall and a little bit of unofficial timing leads us to believe our Y5/6 Girls relay team were the fastest in their race. This is a major achievement given that some of the children had also just finished two fitness sessions in school. Well done children!

Y4 Attended the Durham University Girls Football Festival, 7/12/18

Year 4 pupils have participated in Level 1 Bikeability which is designed to enhance their riding skills and improve their road safety awareness, also known as road craft. As you can see from the pictures their emergency stops and looking behind whist riding improved dramatically - well done Year 4!
