Football Focus April 2016

Year 4 Boys played well all afternoon on 15th April at Meadowfield Leisure Centre. Our team: O; T; A; J; B; R; L; J and A qualified for the quarter- finals, narrowly missing out on getting to the semi-finals which was decided on sudden death penalties. Well done boys!

Year 3 Mixed also played well on 20th April at Meadowfield Leisure Centre. Our team L; I; A; T; O; C; N; M and A participated brilliantly in this non-competitive festival. It put our skills to the test, was good exercise, great fun and a fantastic opportunity to mix with other schools.

Judo in School April 2016

Glynn Fidgeon came in from Destination Judo to teach us some moves and turned our hall into a Dojo. He covered the floor with his safety mats and the excited children were given Gi's (Judo jackets) to wear during their session. The children took part in a general warm up before Glynn showed them some simple games and manoeuvres. Glynn is a coach with the British Judo Association and a very experienced Judo expert. The basic moves of Judo were introduced in an exciting way, incorporating games, partner work and activities involving quick reactions. The children loved it and I'm sure Judo will become a hobby for some of them!

Our children have learnt about appropriate clothing, co-ordination during moves and co-operation with their partners.  We want our children to experience a wide range of sports so they can develop a love of activities to keep them fit and healthy.

Skipping Festival 16th March 2016 at Framwellgate School Durham

After some intense training, our Year 3s arrived at Framwellgate raring to go. We were up against some tough opposition but it didn’t matter because we came away with numerous bronze and silver certificates. A big thanks to Chris Corcoran and his fellow skippers for organising such a fun filled competition between local schools and well done to our Year 3s!

Summer Soccertots 14th April 2016 at Maiden Castle

School Sports Organising Crew at Soccertots

Our  School  Sports  Partnership Competition  Programme Manager Jennifer Lloyd-Edwards

visited  Finchale  to  train  our  School Sports Organising Crew (SSOC): J, M, N, R, T, K and L.

They went along to the Soccertots Festival at Maiden Castle and helped with the organisation and running of the event, coaching the Key Stage 1 activities.  They did an amazing job and were all awarded a certificate for their participation. As an added bonus they also met Billy Paynter, who plays football for  Hartlepool United.

All the children had a really great time – the KS1 pupils got the opportunity to take part in a range of activities  where  they could  practise   sports  skills  and our SSOC enjoyed the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.

Well done everyone!

Infant Agility - Year 2 on 15th March 2016 at Framwellgate School Durham

Year 2 children took part in the Infant Agility Festival at Framwellgate School Durham, along with children from other local schools. A carousel of athletic activities was set up for them to enjoy including hula- hooping, stepping, balancing, and throwing, all against the clock! The festival is a great introduction to athletics for Key Stage 1 and gives them the chance to develop agility, balance and coordination.

Sportshall Athletics Final 3rd December 2015

Y5/6 Tag Rugby Competition 30th November 2015

Sportshall Athletics 25th November 2015

We attended an indoor athletics competition at Framwellgate School Durham.  From the start of the competition we made our presence known with some excellent running in the obstacle races. From that point on we led the competition into the field events where all our practising before the event really started to pay off. We finished with some strong performances in the relay events to come through as the overall winners of the competition!

This puts us through to the finals in early December. Well done to everyone who took part - this is yet another excellent sporting performance for Finchale.

Gymnastics Showcase Year 3 on 19th November 2015

Year 3 gave a fantastic performance at the Gymnastics Showcase Event at Deerness Leisure Centre. They performed a beautifully timed and carefully executed routine to the haunting music of “The Writing’s On The Wall” by Sam Smith.

The event ended well with us bringing home an award for having the Best Costumes – Well done Year 3!

Come Dancing Festival 22nd October 2015

Learning, exercise and great fun, which describes the event perfectly when Year 1 attended the Come Dancing Festival at Meadowfield Leisure Centre. The children attended four workshops run by coaches who were experts in their particular field of dance.  The music was fantastic and the children were totally engaged in all of the activities.  Well done Year 1, you were a credit to our school!

We learnt how to bounce and control the ball, how to shoot, how to mark a partner and finally how to play a real game, moving up and down the court at speed and scoring too.  The children had a fabulous morning and came back asking to play basketball again.  We said a huge thank you at the end to all of the Sports Leaders who made the event a success.

11/03/15 Dance 4 Life Festival  at the Gala Theatre

We attended the Durham and Chester-Le-Street School Sport Partnership “dance 4 life” Festival at the Gala Theatre.  With a theme of Superheroes, Year 4 opened the show with a fantastic James Bond routine which they performed to the music “Skyfall” by Adele.  The atmosphere was electric, the performance was stunning and the audience were totally enthralled.  We certainly followed the theme in Year 2 with a monumental performance to “I Can Be Your Hero” by Enrique Iglesias, their energy and enthusiasm shone through and they coped admirably with all of the backstage happenings too.

This was a great opportunity for our children to learn how to perform in a very professional way on a full size stage in a large theatre.  Well done to Year 4 and Year 2!
