Our First Spring
Oh no! Spring Chick is lost! Can she get home safely?
We led the Easter Assembly and showed you that the spring chick most certainly did find her mother and got home safely.
"Our Easter Assembly, led by Y1, was just fantastic! The children all performed so well, speaking clearly and moving around the stage with confidence. This was one of the best Easter performances we have had – well done to everyone in Year 1 – staff as well as pupils! You have all worked so hard and you should be really proud of what you have achieved."

The Christmasaurus
In English we have been reading The Christmasaurus. Today we worked in different groups to describe what the Christmasaurus looked like using adjectives. We had some fantastic ideas and we loved working with different people today. We managed to write some of our own sentences to describe the dinosaur in our books! It was great fun.

Planetarium visit
We were lucky enough to be able to have a mobile planetarium visit us here at Finchale! Otis' dad in our class lead the visit and we learnt lots of new and interesting facts about stars and how to find constellations. We found the Northern star and could see Ryan's Belt and The Big Dipper. It was very exciting and very dark too! We loved it.

HAVE YOU SEEN ROSIE THE HEN?
SHE HAS GONE MISSING AND WE ARE VERY WORRIED. IF YOU SEE HER, PLEASE RETURN HER TO YEAR 1 AT FINCHALE PRIMARY SCHOOL!
We are very worried about her and have made some missing posters to help to find her...

It's Children in Need! We were very excited to get a visit from a very special bear in aid of Children in Need today. Pudsey came to visit our classes and we were lucky enough to get photographs with him!

In science we are learning about our 5 senses. This week we did a taste test. We tasted some different foods and noticed that our taste buds responded differently to sweet, sour, bitter and salty tastes. Some of us enjoyed our taster food but some of us didn't! It was really funny to watch some peoples faces when they ate their food! We really enjoyed this.

Today was a very exciting day for us. We visited Hardwick park and completed a 'Room on the Broom' workshop. We did lots of activities within our workshop, including making our own broomksticks, making mud monsters, making magic spells and potions and we even went on a Gruffalo trail around the park to find the animals from the story. We had an amazing day and would love to go back!

Today is MARVELLOUS MATHS AT FINCHALE!
We were very excited about Maths today because we got to do some problem solving and we even got to go outside to do our maths lesson. It was a great day and we learnt lots of new ways to partition and make up 6.
Here of some pictures of what we did!

Today in Maths, we were trying to find objects that were more or less that 1 metre. We were able to find lots of things! We even thought of some ourselves and we recorded these on a whiteboard.
05/10/17
Today we were learning how to measure objects using non-standard measurements. We really enjoyed doing this and Miss Johnstone measured Tom with cubes! We even estimated how many cubes tall Tom would be. Our estimations were close!

European Day of Languages
Today we were lucky enough to have Mrs Hamill come in and teach us some French. We learnt how to name lots of different colours in French and we even performed a song, in French, in front of the whole school! It was very interesting and exciting for us because two boys in our class speak the French language. What a treat!
27/09/17
Today is NATIONAL FITNESS DAY!
We started our day of fitness by taking part in an 'active music session' with Mrs Glover. We loved moving and dancing to the songs. We also joined in with singing. We were worn out afterwards!
18/09/17
In English today we were matching uppercase letters to their matching lowercase letters. We were excellent at this and some of us earned some merit points!
