Curriculum

At Finchale Primary School we are proud of our curriculum and the range of experiences we provide for our children. All aspects of our curriculum are accessible to all children, irrespective of their ethnic background, gender, disability, religious or linguistic background. We strive hard to meet the needs of those pupils with special educational needs, those with disabilities, those who are more able, those with special gifts and talents and the children who are learning English as an additional language. We provide a rich, challenging curriculum, which stretches all of our children. Staff are aware of children who have exceptional talents and gifts and monitor or track their progress carefully to ensure their academic potential or talent is continually developed. Our Statement of Intent is set out below:

Phonics and Reading Schemes used in school.

Monster Phonics is a whole school systematic synthetic phonics scheme. It teaches children to read by enabling them to identify and segment the letters and to blend the sounds together to read the words.

It is a really fun way to learn phonics since it is multi-sensory.

Sounds are categorised into 10 colour groups and each colour has a corresponding monster character.

Monster Phonics is a highly advanced scheme that creates interest and engagement from the children.
