Winner of the Active Durham Award 2016/2017 - Primary School Contribution to Sport & Physical Activity

We are delighted to say that we have won the Active Durham award for Primary School Contribution to Sport & Physical Activity. Our Chair of Governors, Amanda Hopgood, nominated the school for this. At the award ceremony that Mrs Whitton and Mrs Morton went to, they were so thrilled that it took them a little while to make their way to the stage to collect the trophy! Mrs Morton, our PE Co-ordinator, said “I am so proud and honoured that our school has won this award. Huge thanks to Mrs Whitton and our Governors for their support and encouragement with all matters sport and activity related. We have a great group of enthusiastic children who enjoy and participate fully in the wide-ranging activities we offer them in and out of school. We do have a genuine talent pool here. We give our children the chance to try many sports and sign-post them to further their activities within the community. We are lucky to have supportive parents who accompany us to events and of course a dedicated school staff, including Mr Thorn, who teaches PE and supports staff and Mr Pratt who coaches the football teams.”  Finally, Mrs Whitton commented, “This award is the result of the combined efforts of our whole Finchale family – well done to everyone!”

SPORTS DAY 2018

We had a fantastic Sports Day – the weather was sunny and hot and we made sure the pupils were properly hydrated throughout the afternoon. As always, we started with our multisports in family groups with the winners being Miss Scott’s team. We then had the sprint races in year groups, boys and girls separately. Whilst that was exciting, I’m not sure anything quite matched the parents/carers’ races which were very hard-fought. The toddlers’ races were lovely to watch too. Mrs Whitton loves Sports Day – it really embodies the Finchale family feel she and all staff try to promote. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a wonderful day!
