Founder's Day / Thinking Day

On 22nd February members of the Scout and Guiding movement celebrate Founder’s Day, or Thinking Day. Pupils (and staff) were invited to wear their uniforms to school on that day. This was the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell founder of the scout movement. Durham has Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, can you spot their uniforms on the photographs?

They all wore their uniforms with pride!

The School Choir at Christmas, December 2017…

The Choir have been very busy this year, the photo shows the practising Christmas songs. They have performed at St Cuthbert’s Church (a collaborative event with Durham Young Musicians), Lindisfarne Care Home (in our local community) and finally at Sainsbury’s Supermarket (raising funds for school). Well done to the children who all volunteer and sing in their own time after school. They have certainly brought joy and happiness to many people this Christmas. Finally many thanks to Mrs McGuire and Mrs Grabham for the coaching and guidance they have given the group.

Finchale Brass Concert 3/11/17

Thank you to music teacher Mr Wilkinson and well done to our young musicians who entertained us with great style. Y5/6 Brass playing the baritone, trumpet and one trombone gave us a fabulous rendition of “Finchale Blues”. Y4 playing mini trombones gave us a very seasonal “Spooky Blues” and finally Isabel Y5 played “Concourse Calypso” solo on the trombone. Mrs Whitton said that she was very proud of the children’s performance and want to nurture their talent for the future.

European Day of Languages at Finchale 28th September 2017

What an exciting day we had at school when Mrs Hamill who is a parent, governor and linguist came to spend the day with our classes speaking French. The children also sang French songs and learnt about French culture and customs.

Each class learnt greetings in French. Reception Class also learnt how to ask how someone was feeling ça va?” They sung Frère Jacques. Year 1 learnt colours, their song was L’arc enciel. Year 2 learnt numbers, their song was Meunier Tu Dors. Year 3 learnt about ages, their song was Bonjour! Je Me Presént. Year 4 learnt about methods of transport and how French children travel to school, their song was Si Tu Aimes Parler Français. Year 5 learnt about the planets in French and their song was Alouette. Finally Year 6 will now be accomplished at ordering a drink in a French café and their song was Savez-vous Planter les Choux?
